Luetta Smith Lee
Luetta Smith, daughter of Jethrow and Caroline Smith was born July 22, 1864 in Urbana, Illinois in Champaign County. She was raised and educated in Urbana. She married General Cass Lee on January 14, 1883 and they lived in Urbana on Main Street and Clark Street. They had two children: a daughter, Carrie Alice Lee, born January 6, 1892 and a son born in 1898 who died in infancy. In 1909, the Lees moved to Champaign, Illinois where they lived on White Street. Mrs. Lee was a beautician. She belonged to Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church, where she was very active. She was responsible for the Deborah Chapter #27 Order of Eastern Star being formed and her name is on the Charter. Mrs. Lee died in 1911.
