Blanche Jamerson Harris

Blanche HarrisBlanche Jamerson Harris was born August 26, 1898 in Champaign, Illinois to Mr. Andrew and Nannie Ross Jamerson. She attended schools in Champaign, graduating from the Champaign Senior High School.

She was married to Edgar Harris and became Co-Editor of the Illinois Times, a local African-American newspaper which existed for more than 30 years.

As a member of Salem Baptist Church, she attended Sunday School, BYPU and Church Services, and worked in many capacities there.

Mrs. Harris died November 15, 1997 and her graveside funeral services were conducted by the Women of the Baha'i Faith.

This Legacy is Yours was a cooperative effort between the National Council of Negro Women, Champaign County Chapter, and the Museum of the Grand Prairie.

A gold star star denotes original charter members of the Champaign County Section of the National Council of Negro Women.
