As part of their new exhibit, A History of Healing: Infectious Diseases and Community Responses to Defeat Them, co-sponsors The Museum of the Grand Prairie, the Champaign County Forest Preserve District and the Champaign County Museums Network are seeking contributions for a community collage "reflecting on our personal and collective experiences of the last two-plus years."

Community members are invited to submit art, poems, photos, and other paper artifacts (no longer larger than 8 inches by 8 inches) that "speak to the multiple pandemics occurring in our community and the world."

Content can address any of the following:

  • COVID-19 (sickness, grief, loss, isolation, fear for self and loved ones, etc.)
  • Systemic Racism and other injustices
  • Economic Crisis (loss of jobs, homes, food insecurity, etc.)
  • Climate Change
  • Gun Violence
  • Political Polarization

Artist Cindy Sampson will assemble the many pieces into one collective whole, telling one combined story of Champaign County’s experience in these historic times. The completed piece will open in September as part of the History of Healing exhibit and become part of the permanent collection at The Museum of the Grand Prairie.

Contributions will be collected through July. Submission forms are available at the front desk of Museum of the Grand Prairie at the Champaign County Forest Preserve District.
